MACKA RULES AND
REGULATIONS
2008
Spirit and Intent
Even if you are new
to karting you have heard the term “spirit and intent”. It is the concise
description of
how karting is run,
pure, simple and undeniable. It is not some politically correct catch phrase
that has its
day and then fades
away. It is the law governing the sport of karting for the last 44 years. It
means that
you may be judged
based on your perceived spirit and apparent intent for your conduct at any time
at the
track. Indeed, you
should judge yourself using the same criteria. The law of spirit and intent
comes into
effect when race
officials are encountered with facets of karting not specifically addressed in
the rulebook.
At this point,
officials must make decisions based not only on fact, but also on whether the
infraction was a
clear case of
attempting to controvert the spirit of the event. It is many times the hardest
decision for an
official to make.
Nobody likes to invoke the spirit and intent rule.
We urge you avoid
causing a spirit and intent ruling by being fully aware of all the regulations
that apply to
you and your kart.
It is impossible to write a rule for every aspect of karting. Before attempting
modifications to
your kart that are not specifically addressed in the rulebook, talk to the
technical inspector
and clarify the
requirements. You should “intend” to compete successfully, but if your “intent”
is winning
by circumventing the
rules, then you should reconsider your involvement in this sport.

24 Two laps to go: Should we have a caution after the two
to go signal the karts will be
lined up single file and we will restart the race
with a green, next lap white, and final
lap checkered. The exception to this is, if the
Flagman has displayed the White flag
to the leader, the only flag after that will be the
checkered, this may be in conjunction
with a red or yellow but that will be the final lap.
We race to the caution however you
can be black-flagged for un-safe driving. Red flag
means slow down and safely

MACKA race director within
10 minutes of the completion of the race. Only a
driver signed up for that race will be
allowed to protest.
Equipment protest must be made before the call to
line-up.
A protest of un-sportsman like conduct (no fee) will
be heard by the drivers
committee for that race. Their decision is final.
Un-sportsman like conduct can be
before, during , and after the race. A driver is
responsible for any of his guest.
An engine protest must be accompanied by a cash fee of
$100.00. MACKA can call
for inspection of any kart regardless of finishing
order with no fee.
If the protested engine is found legal the protested
individual will receive $50.00 with
$50.00 retained to pay expenses. If it is found
illegal the protester will be returned
$50.00 of his protest fee. An illegal competitor will
lose all points and awards for that
race and will not be allowed to drop that race.
29 If a driver declines a protest, he loses points for that
race, cannot drop the race, and
may be suspended. If a driver declines a protest for
the second time he will be
suspended from MACKA
30 A driver may be suspended from MACKA for any reason
including but not limited to
un-sportsman like conduct, competing illegally,
